DULUTH — The Lakeview American Legion baseball team scored seven runs over the fourth and fifth innings en route to a 9-5 victory over Hibbing Tuesday at Ordean Field.
Post 222 got on the board first as Joe Allison doubled with two out in the first, then walks to Hayden Westerberg and Codieh Powers loaded the bases. Travis Erickson brought home the run when he reached on an error.
Lakeview tied it in the bottom of the first Drew Grindahl tripled and scored on a single by Isaac Fugere.
Lakeview took a 2-1 lead in the third on an RBI single by Kyle Doup, but Hibbing tallied twice in the fourth to make it 3-2.
Dan Rusten walked, then Will Durie and Noah Vinopal hit back-to-back singles. Westerberg hit a two-run single to give Post 222 the lead.
Lakeview would score three times in their half of the fourth as Voss hit a two-run single and Doup hit a run-scoring to make it 5-3.
Lakeview broke it open in the fifth with a four-run inning.
Tyler Wapola doubled, then Jaxon Edwards knocked him in with a double. Joe Vos had an RBI triple, and Grindahl an RBI base hits.
Post 222 would score twice in the sixth as Vinopal and Allison both singled, then Westerberg hit a two-run double, but Hibbing didn’t threaten the rest of the contest.
Durie started on the mound of Post 222, tossing 4.2 innings of 10-hit ball. He struck out one and walked five. Powers finished up with 3.1 innings. He didn’t allow a hit, struck out seven and walked five.
Sebastian Sullivan started for Lakeview.
Durie finished with three hits, including a two-out triple in the seventh inning, but he was left stranded on third. Westerberg had three hits, Vinopal had two hits, as did Allison.
Vos, Doup and Grindahl all had two hits for Lakeview.
