Vespa wins Bowling Pin Fun Match
HIBBING — The annual Bowling Pin Fun Match was conducted recently at the Hibbing Rifle and Pistol Club.
This year’s winner is Mike Vespa who won in an astonishing 6.75 seconds.
CMMF Golf Classic
HIBBING — The Central Mesabi Medical Foundation will be conducting its 26th annual Golf Classic on Monday, July 8, at the Mesaba Country Club in Hibbing. This is the foundation’s main fund raiser, with proceeds going toward the purchase of medical equipment, student scholarships, and community health programs.

EES 3-Man Scramble
PENGILLY — The EES 3-Man Scramble will be conducted on July 13 and 14, at the Swan Lake Country Club in Pengilly.
The tournament is limited to 60 teams. Entry fee is $85 per person for non-members and $75 per person for members. It will be a two-day, 36-hole event with scores counting both days. Golfers will be flighted after the first day.
There will be two sessions of shotgun starts each day, at 8 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
There will be a Women’s Division. Women must specify when registering that they want to participate in this division.
A hole in one contest will pay $10,000 for amateurs only from 150 yards.
Giant cash Skins Game and $1,500 in flag game prizes based on 60 teams. There will be a $10,000 total flight payout based on 60 teams.

Keewatin Men’s Softball Tourney
KEEWATIN — The 49th annual Keewatin Men’s Double Elimination Slow Pitch Softball Tournament will be conducted on Saturday and Sunday, July 6 and 7.
The action will take place on Pete Filippi Field in Keewatin.
Payout is based on 16 teams. There is an entry fee of $200 per team and teams must sign up by Sunday, June 30.
The first place team will win $1,200 while second place will get $800. The third place team will earn $500 and the consolation champion will receive $200. Payouts will be adjusted accordingly if there are less than 16 teams.
The tournament will be conducted rain or shine. Camping is available and a concession stand will be present. There is a street dance and fireworks on Friday, July 5.
There has been an American Legion donation of $1,000 towards the tournament.

MCC Ladies conduct scramble
HIBBING — The Mesaba Country Club ladies conducted a 13-hole social scramble on Tuesday, June 18.
Six teams participated in the event. The team of Terry Gornick and JoJo Williams took first place honors.
Second place team members were Denise Hanson, Susan Perunovich and Joy Thaler.
Special event winners were Joy Thaler, closest approach shot on hole No. 1, and Beth Kimmes, longest putts on holes No. 9 and 18.
Three golfers split the pot for driving the green on hole No. 11. They were Nancy Maki, Deb Redmond and Kathy Sterk.
Muni Junior golf
HIBBING — A total of 25 kids golfed on Monday, June 17, in the Hibbing Municipal Golf Course Junior League.
Nobody won the chipping contest.

Muni Men’s golf
HIBBING — A total of 75 members participated in the Hibbing Municipal Golf Course Wednesday Men’s League on June 19.
John Sporer had the low Gross score of 33.
Tied at 26 with the low Net score were Mike Brown, Dick Jensen, Gary Simonson and Dick McKanna.
Eric Edmonds was closest to the pin on the second shot on hole No. 2, the closest to the pin on hole No. 4, and closest to the pin on hole No. 8. Brian Johnson had the longest putt on hole No. 9.
Winning Skins were Eric Edmonds with a birdie on hole No. 2, and Rick Loushine with a birdie on hole No. 4.
Blind Bogey winners were Joe Zlonis, Rick Smith, Mike Oddo, Paul Ruper, Don Mulner, Tim Degnan, Gary Simonson, Nick Cimermancic, Don Quirk and Mike Senich.
Muni Senior Scramble
HIBBING — A total of 60 golfers participated in the Hibbing Muni Senior Scramble on June 17, at the Hibbing Municipal Golf Course.
The longest putt was made by Larry Fearing, Tony Zubich, and Dave Antikainen. Harold Maki was closest to the flag on hole No. 4 and Ron Bocht was closest to the flag on hole No. 8.
The first place team was made up of Chuck Vukad, Harold Maki, John Nelson and Frank Zubich.
On the second place team were Tony Zubich, Les Nefzger, Mark Vosberg and Del Huhta.
Taking third place was the team of Jim Stubblefield, Bill Loushine, Pete O’Brien and Jerry Flaschberger.
Finishing in fourth place was a team comprised of Mark Warner, Shaddy Ruzich, Larry Jacobson and Dan Evans.
Placing fifth was the team of Bill Kern, Fran Sega, Rick Loushine and Matt Sencih.
Coming in sixth was the team of Dave Antikainen, Ted Erickson, Dennis Peterson and Dick Lowen.

Sandstrom Memorial Youth Golf and Tennis Tournament
COLERAINE — The 20th annual Mary Sandstrom Memorial Youth Golf and Tennis Tournament will be conducted at Eagle Ridge Golf Course and Courts in Coleraine on Wednesday, July 10, and Thursday, July 11.
The event has become one of the largest of its kind in the state of Minnesota. This tournament was organized to memorialize Mary Sandstrom, a local businesswoman who was active in many causes from area golf associations to wildlife organizations. Tennis and golf were her recreational passions. To that end, the Sandstrom family thought it to be a fitting tribute to sponsor such a tournament for area youth.
The golf tournament will be run on Wednesday, July 10, with a 9 a.m. shotgun start for boys and girls. Registration begins at 8 a.m. It will be an 18-hole format with age groups 12-14 and 15-18 for both boys and girls.
The Mite Flight (ages 11 and under) will play nine holes.
There will also be a putting contest.
Tennis will also start on Wednesday, July 10, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. at Eagle Ridge for players ages 14 and under. On Thursday, July 11, the tennis will continue for participants in 15-18 singles, doubles and mixed doubles.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. at Eagle Ridge with play beginning at 8:30 a.m. Everyone is guaranteed two matches at various courts around the surrounding area. There are great prizes, trophies, goodie bags and lunch provided for all participants on both days.

HERMANTOWN — The 11th annual Arrowhead High School Volleyball Captains’ Tournament will be conducted later this summer.
The tournament is set for Saturday, Aug. 10, at Hermantown High School.
“Get your volleyball season off to a great start,” said tournament organizers.
The tournament format is pool play followed by divisional playoffs. A minimum of four matches is guaranteed with the tournament champions receiving T-shirts.
The team entry deadline is Friday, Aug. 3. Team entry fee is $100.
