ST. PAUL — The Hibbing Community College baseball team swept a non-conference doubleheader against Mesabi Range College on Sunday, winning by the scores of 5-1 and 6-3.

The games were played at Northwestern College in St. Paul.

HCC 5

MRC 1

Hibbing defeated Mesabi Range 5-1 in this game.

The Cardinals scored a pair of runs in the first inning, another in the second and yet another in the fourth inning to lead 4-0. Mesabi Range scored its run in the fifth inning but HCC responded with a run in the bottom of the inning to lead 5-1. There was no more scoring.

Hibbing pitcher Joey Fracek threw a masterpiece, allowing just three hits and one earned run in the seven-inning complete game. He did not issue a walk and struck out six.

Kody Lindgren pitched the distance in taking the loss for Mesabi Range. He allowed eight hits and four earned runs while walking six and striking out six.

Carson Dobias had two hits with a home run and drove in two runs for Hibbing while Ray Santacruz also laced two hits.

Mathew Salters scored the lone run for Mesabi Range.

HCC 6

MRC 3

Hibbing won this game by the score of 6-3.

Mesabi Range scored a run in the third inning and led 1-0 until Hibbing scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning. Mesabi Range scored twice in the bottom of the sixth to cut the Cardinal lead to 4-3. However, the Cardinals added two more runs in the top of the seventh to make the final score 6-3.

Evan Jerome hurled the first six innings to pick up the win for HCC. He allowed three hits and three earned runs with three walks and eight strikeouts. Brody Mundell pitched the seventh inning to pick up the save, allowing a hit and striking out one.

Jarod Opsahl pitched the distance and took the loss for Mesabi Range. He yielded 10 hits and six earned runs with two walks and two strikeouts.

Derrick Calvillo had three hits and an RBI for Hibbing while Chanler Dilday had a hit, scored two runs and drove in two. Evyn Booth had a hit and two RBIs.

Joe Wenzel had a hit and two RBIs for Mesabi Range and Christian Houle had a pair of hits.
