HIBBING — The Hibbing Community College baseball team has been busy. Following are recaps of games played by the Cardinals:
Central Lakes 6
Central Lakes defeated Hibbing 6-1 in this game played at Brainerd.
Central Lakes led 3-0 after two innings and added three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead. The Cardinals scored their lone run in the top of the fifth inning when Simon Fishgold drove in Dylan Montagna.
Eric Hinnekamp pitched the distance for Central Lakes to pick up the victory.
Joey Fracek started on the mound for HCC and took the loss.
Brody Mundell hurled the final three innings and gave up no runs on two hits while walking one and fanning two.
Josh Fussy had a big day at the top of the lineup for Central Lakes as he was 4-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, three runs scored and three RBIs. Alan Pietila had two hits and two RBIs while Hunter Wicklund had a hit and scored two runs.
Ray Santacruz had two hits for Hibbing.
Central Lakes 4
Hibbing won this game by a 5-4 margin in action at Brainerd.
Central Lakes scored a single run in the bottom of the third inning but the Cardinals erupted for five runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 5-1 advantage.
Central Lakes retaliated with three runs of its own in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the Cardinals’ lead to 5-4. There was no more scoring as HCC held on for the win.
Braydon Borg pitched the distance to pick up the win for Hibbing. In his seven innings of work he allowed four runs – none of which were earned – while walking three and striking out three.
Preston Rocheleau took the loss on the mound for Central Lakes
Evan Jerome had a hit, a run scored and two RBIs for Hibbing while Sammy Rivera had two hits and scored a run. Ray Santacruz and Ramon Morales each had two hits and drove in one run while Jaiman Lamphere had a hit, scored a run and drove in another.
Phillip Zynda and Alex Happojoki each had a hit and two RBIs for Central Lakes and Josh Fussy scored two runs.
Central Lakes 13
In a game at Nyberg Field in Hibbing on Saturday, Central Lakes defeated the Cardinals 13-5.
Central Lakes led 5-0 after two innings but Hibbing scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to trail 5-3.
Central Lakes scored two more in the fourth inning and one in the fifth to take a 8-3 lead. The Cardinals retaliated with two in the bottom of the fifth inning to pull to within 8-5. However, Central Lakes added five runs in the sixth inning to take an eight-run lead.
Alex Guggisburg pitched the distance to pick up the win for Central Lakes.
Chanler Dilday started on the mound for the Cardinals and was tagged for five runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings. J.D.Cunningham and Sammy Rivera also saw mound duty.
Jake Kapphan had two hits with two home runs, three runs scored and five RBIs for Central Lakes. Alan Pietila had three hits, scored four runs and drove in one and Phillip Zynda had a home run, scored two runs and drove in three. Preston Rocheleau had three hits, a run scored and two RBIs while Alex Happojoki had a hit and two RBIs.
Evan Jerome had three hits and a run scored for Hibbing and Dilday had a hit, scored two runs and drove in one. Ray Santacruz, Jaiman Lamphere and Kennie Rivera each had two hits.
