Keely Bozich, a senior at Nashwauk Keewatin High School was recently honored as an AAUW Future Collegian and awarded a $100 scholarship at the October meeting.
Keely is the daughter of Cathe and Jim Bozich. She has three sisters, two of which are older and one that is younger.
Keely has been cheerleading at Nashwauk-Keewatin since fifth grade. Cheerleading has made her break out of her comfort zone and try new things. One of the new adventures she experienced this year was trying out for the Allstate Sideline team. Although she didn't make the Allstate team, it was rewarding to try something new.
She has been a member of the GNK Quizbowl team since ninth grade. The team competes at meets where questions are asked based on Ojibwe language and history. Kelly enjoys learning about the language of her ancestors and the challenges they faced decades ago to pave the path for her generation.
Keely has also been on the Nashwauk-Keewatin Student Council for three years and this year she is the president of Student Council. She has met students for other schools, made new friendships and grown through all of the experiences. She has also been honored to have been elected to the National Honor Society. Her favorite part about that group is the way they help others within the community. She also is the manager for the N-K baseball team.
Keely's future plans are to attend Vermilion Community College and go into the Veterinary Technician program. She looks forward to what is to come in the future and is thankful for all the opportunities she has been given.
