For years, I have heard, “we need some fresh faces in our city’s government.” Yet, when it is time to file for office, people are hesitant to run.

I can understand why — schedules are busy with work, family, church and other activities. It takes a tremendous time commitment and interest in our community to participate in city government.

This year we have that opportunity. Hibbing is fortunate to have a number of talented young people throw their names into the hat to serve on city council and school board.

It is my honor to support Jay Hildenbrand for Ward 4 on the Hibbing City Council. I am the executive director of a large nonprofit organization that serves people with disabilities across the Iron Range.

For nearly 7 years, Jay has demonstrated excellent leadership skills as a member of our board of directors. As a (volunteer) director, Jay has fiduciary responsibilities of a $7.5 million budget and a staff of nearly 200 employees. He is respectful and works well with other board members, administration and unionized employees.

Jay comes to meetings prepared, will listen, consider all aspects of an issue and provide meaningful input.

Best of all, Jay has common sense. Our organization has greatly benefited from Jay’s ability to thoughtfully analyze issues and contribute to successful outcomes.

I am excited at the prospect that Jay’s exceptional leadership skills will be put to good use as a member of Hibbing’s city council. I have seen first-hand the difference he can make.

Please vote for Dr. Jay Hildenbrand for Hibbing City Council in Ward 4.
