I'm appalled that Hibbing High School science teacher Dan Gotz would talk to students in a verbally abusive manner.

I would like to submit onions to Essentia Health Virginia for shutting down the inpatient physical and medical rehab wing and also for not letting the public know. I heard this from a friend and called the hospital to confirm it is closing in June of this year. I have been there twice almost…

We, the undersigned retirees of ISD 701, stand with Dan Gotz. We believe the person and her attorneys bringing the lawsuit against him have violated his PELRA rights and rights in the ISD 701 contract on right to privacy during an investigation. Her child also violated school policy not only…

We had better medical care in Vietnam at a MASH Unit than we get here today in local clinics.

This issue with Chris Horoshak insisting on pressing charges against a medicated elderly woman is ridiculous! I made the initial motion to remove Chris from the SD6 board. The motion was made on my part not because he was running against David Tomassoni. But because Chris has been missing me…

The Minnesota Border-to-Border Broadband Development Grant Program has pushed the state to 91-percent penetration toward its goal of universal statewide high-speed internet access for all Minnesotans by 2020. In the next few weeks, the legislature will decide on the level of funding the prog…

As most readers would be already too aware, a high profile position with the IRRRB was recently filled lacking the full normal due process hiring practices for filling taxpayer funded government jobs. This got attention as it was deemed unfair by some who would have liked an opportunity to c…

Recently, 157 Republicans and one Democrat from Minnesota, Rep Colin Peterson, voted against the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). The law renewal needed to address a major loophole— adding non-live-in boyfriends/girlfriends to the list of domestic abusers banned from owning guns. The new l…

Kudos to Jack Baratto for his Letter to the Editor making it clear to readers how the state is relentlessly taxing us for road repairs (that never get done) and education (it's always for the kids, isn't it?) that is failing. But the politicians and the teachers union always need more money.…

The obvious game of musical chairs — played to the tune of let’s prevent mining and jobs for the Iron Range — by former DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr (appointed by former Gov. Dayton) and new DNR Commissioner Sarah Strommen (appointed by Gov. Walz) needs a simple bipartisan, legislative fix.

I have done some very cool things as a pilot. One is my duty of flying fire detection for Minnesota DNR during the spring and fall wildfire season in Minnesota. The reason we are airborne is to protect people and property. That is a microcosm however, of the duties air ambulance pilots refle…

Mike Pence, President Trump's scintillating vice president, has convinced me not to become a socialist. Instead I want to be a total capitalist, or maybe even a fascist, as that is the mortal enemy of a socialist.

This morning’s edition of the HDT confirms what I have believed for a long time. As stated, Gov. Dayton’s former head of the Minnesota DNR, Tom Landwehr, has taken the leading role of “Friends of the Boundary Waters.” As you probably know, these folks (“Friends”) are against everything minin…

With the news of the Hibbing Public Utilities commission increasing its rates by 10 percent, it seems to me that, once again, Hibbing is making it harder than before to get new businesses in our area and houses to buy or sell. My utilities in the winter are as high as a small mortgage paymen…

One of the many amazing things about Hibbing is the work that the HPAT-Hibbing Public Access Television- crew does. Ron Wirkkala, Don Slossen and the whole crew at HPAT have recorded and broadcast countless business meetings, sporting events, worship services and music concerts for the peopl…

It is that we who live in the Zim bog (Meadowlands Township myself) have: avid bird watching people from throughout the world visit us seeking the many species of birds here. I totally support them, except in one area: their total disregard to public and their own safety. To start is the per…

As a family man trying to raise three kids and struggling already with high bills from our PUC, I was extremely disappointed to read that the PUC has now voted to raise our rates by 10 percent. That’s a huge increase, and it’s going to push a lot of people over the edge in meeting their obli…

Recently, a photograph of ski jumping on Pill Hill in Hibbing sparked much discussion. Growing up at the then south end of Seventh Avenue it was merely known as The Dump. Like most neighborhoods, we had a group of playmates. One in particular at very young age became one of the regulars, jum…

John Myers’ timely April 1 article “History uncovered in the woods” prompted me to caution landowners who own property adjacent to governments and major landowners (USFS, DNR, etc.), which have done their own surveys after the original U.S. Government Land Office surveys in the late 1800s.

The article in the Sunday, May 28, edition of the Hibbing Daily Tribune about the Ongaro men who taught at Hibbing Community College for 60 years is a superb example of what makes Hibbing special.

If you read Jack Lynch’s column on Aug. 7, did you notice that the states limiting or hindering voting all had Republican governors and Republican legislators?
