James R. Tynen, 92, died peacefully on June 16, 2019 (Father’s Day), surrounded by his loving family.
This gracious gentleman was a World War II Navy veteran from Chisholm. He graduated from the University of Minnesota as an industrial engineer and spent his 37-year career at Honeywell. Jim was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, a 64-year member of St. Raphael, an impassioned member of the St. Raphael and Knights of Columbus choirs and a 60-year member of the 40 & 8. He will be remembered for his quick wit, unwavering faith, devotion to family, enduring friendships and for his “quiet” strength… except when he was singing.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Bertha Tynen; and by his one and only girlfriend, Eileen, whom he will be serenading in heaven on June 18, in celebration of their 70th wedding anniversary.
Left to carry on his musical legacy are his children: Jan (Jake), Kathy (Jeff), Jim (Jo), Gerry (Nicole), Pat (Jean) and Mary Beth; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren (and one on the way); three great-great-grandchildren; numerous special nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends.
