HIBBING — Authorities in Hibbing say they’ve completed the investigation of the human remains found near Carey Lake Thursday afternoon.
Police Chief Steve Estey wrote in an email Friday afternoon that an autopsy completed by the Midwest Medical Examiner's office revealed that there does not appear to be any foul play in the death of the male located at the scene.
Officers had been dispatched to a wooded area on the north side of the lake at 1:50 p.m. Thursday for a report of a deceased male discovered by a party walking their dog.
“Upon arrival on scene officers confirmed that the male was deceased and secured the area,” Estey wrote in a press release that day, adding that the incident was under investigation at that time. The scene investigation is now closed.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension assisted the Hibbing Police Department with the incident.
