HIBBING— A dog and two cats died in a fire at a home over the weekend in Hibbing.
At 12:10 p.m. Sunday, the Hibbing Fire Department responded to reports of smoke billowing out from the back of a home located on the 1100 block of 16th Avenue East. HFD Battalion Chief Andy Anderson confirmed with the Hibbing Daily Tribune on Monday that a neighbor saw the smoke and reported the fire.
The Minnesota Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
One person lives in the home but was not there at the time of the incident, Anderson noted, adding that the cause of the fire was not suspicious.
Firefighters say the fire began somewhere on the main floor of the home and extended up into the attic. The fire was contained to one room and the attic, while the water and smoke damage extended throughout.
The HFD received assistance from the Chisholm Fire Department as well as Keewatin Fire Department.
