GREAT SCOTT TOWNSHIP — Snowy and icy road conditions were factors in a one-vehicle crash Wednesday night that led to the need for an airlift for a Hibbing teen.
The Minnesota State Patrol (MSP) responded to Highway 169 at Spirit Lake Road in Great Scott Township near Mountain Iron around 9:15 p.m.
There they discovered Cole R. Scovill, 19, of Hibbing, in a 2007 Chevy Silverado on its side in a ditch. MSP determined that while Scovill was traveling east on Highway 169, his truck veered off the roadway. The truck then rolled over coming to rest on its side.
Scovill sustained non-life threatening injuries and was airlifted to St. Mary’s in Duluth.
He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time and no airbag deployed, according to the MSP report. Alcohol was not a factor.
Assisting at the scene were St. Louis County Sheriff’s Department, fire and EMS and North Air Care.
