Rachael Long, assistant manager of Walmart in Mountain Iron, recently was awarded a Patriotic Award for her good service to the Army Reserve and employee Michael Gifford from the ESGR. From left, Frederick J. Godec, ESGR Region II Liaison Minnesota Committee, Rachael Long, assistant manager-Walmart, Melissa Freeberg, volunteer ESGR Minnesota Committee and Michael Gifford, nominator ARNG PFC. 334th BEB. ESGR was launched on June 22, 1972, by President Richard Nixon to ensure the all-volunteer force, instituted at the same time, would be successful by gaining the support of American employers with regard to their employees that also serve in the National Guard and Reserve. Often referred to as the “Triad of Support” (Service, Family and Employer), ESGR is responsible for the very important third member of that supporting relationship. ESGR provides that connection between service members and their civilian employers by fostering a positive relationship through various activities. Employers who practice personnel policies that support employee participation in the National Guard and Reserve are applauded and Rachael Long has proven this time and time again. Thank you Rachael Long for your work and thank you Michael Gifford for your service.
