KEEWATIN — Marvin and Pauline Johnson of Keewatin celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on May 18, 2017. Their family gathered to celebrate on Sunday, May 21.
They met rather unexpectedly during a dance at the Selfridge Air Force Base in Michigan. Marvin was an airman from the Iron Range, Pauline the Pennsylvania daughter of a civilian employee on the base. Marvin immediately called home to break up with a girl. Pauline overruled the disapproval of her mother at the time. After a whirlwind romance they were married May 18, 1957, at the base.
After Marvin’s service in the Air Force they settled in Keewatin where they raised six daughters through good times and bad. The Johnsons have 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
