Rapids Legion baseball team is eliminated

TWIN CITIES — The Grand Rapids American Legion Post 60 baseball team saw its season come to an end Friday afternoon as it dropped both its game on the opening day of the state American Legion baseball tournament. Grand Rapids fell, 13-8, to Eden Prairie, then lost a close one, 6-5, to Princeton.

Grand Rapids Grey earns state VFW berth

GRAND RAPIDS — The Grand Rapids VFW Grey baseball team, on the strength of a 7-0 playoff run, will be making a trip to the VFW state baseball tournament. Grand Rapids, in the championship game for District 8 late last week, defeated West Duluth, 4-2, to earn the trip to state.

U12 tennis team wins Silver Division

MINNEAPOLIS — The U12 mixed tennis team from Hibbing continued the fine play of Iron Range tennis players in the Northern Junior Team Tennis Sectionals in Minneapolis Friday as the local team placed first in the Silver Division.

HIBBING — After a season in which the Hibbing Post No. 222 American Legion baseball team finished with a 17-10 record and in the runner-up position in the Sub-State 10 Tournament, manager Brandon Karnes likes the direction the program is heading.
