Story competes in national tourney
Riley Story, who placed eighth in the Elementary Girls Division at the State of Minnesota Archery in the Schools Meet, competed recently in the national meet in Louisville, Ky. According to her coach, Paula Kangas, Story started out nervous but after the first two rounds she shot her best score ever and was beaming from ear-to-ear with a score of 243 out of 300. She next shot in the 3D Tournament which set a world record for the largest archery 3D shoot. On the 3D range, archers shoot at six different animals and get scores for each to add up to a possible 100. This helps youngsters understand why archery has gotten so big, and all money that the tournament produces goes to top kids for scholarships. She finished with a score of 173 in 3D, which was much better than her score from last year. Riley plans to work hard all summer to be more consistent, according to coach Kangas, who was with her at the meet along with her father, Jesse Story. “Al LaTendresse and I are very proud of her accomplishments because of her hard work and how she has the will to improve,” Kangas said. “Her family also is proud of her and is her biggest fan. Al did a great job on her mechanics in the last few weeks. Assumption archery coaches can’t wait for next year and see what else these fabulous archers can do with hard work and determination.”
