HIBBING — Hoping to ride the momentum following a successful pre-season Kick-Off Party and Concert, Hibbing Raceway is poised to charge full speed into the 2013 racing season on Saturday, May 18, presented by Ken Waschke Auto Plaza and Grandma’s in the Park.

In a schedule highlighted with special events and fan promotions, the season opener will include five divisions of racing; WISSOTA Late Models, WISSOTA Modifieds, WISSOTA Super Stocks, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds, and Pure Stocks.

All five track champions are expected to be in competition with a host of hungry challengers hoping to knock them from their perch.

The first six weeks will be critical to local race teams as they look to find their groove and it will play largely into track championships later as all five classes will be in action each of those nights before the special events take a stronghold mid-summer.

Much like 2012 schedule, this year’s edition will feature a diverse group of special events.

On Saturday, June 22, the Advantage RV Modified Tour will come to town for the first time ever. The Watertown, South Dakota based series is largely focused in the Dakotas and Western Minnesota and thus many new teams from outside regions are

expected to be in action challenging the strong local contingent.

Just one week later, another western based series makes their return to Hibbing after several years away.

The NLRA Late Models invade Hibbing for the Mike Baumgardner Memorial Invitational.

Baumgardner was a strong supporter of Hibbing Raceway for many years and very visible part of the Waseleski racing crew.

The action doesn’t stop there because the following week on Saturday, July 6 the UMSS Winged and Non-Winged Sprint Cars come to Hibbing for the 3rd Annual Motter Equipment “Rumble on the Range”.

The Twin Cities based series has seen steady growth in its short existence thanks largely to affordable rule package and strong scheduling.

A little over two weeks later, the high flying Sprint Cars will return in a different form. After a successful debut that featured one of the largest crowds in the storied history of the track, Hibbing Raceway will welcome back the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions on Tuesday, July 23.

Like last year, some of the top names from around the country are expected to be in attendance from Connecticut to California, and all parts in between.

Series Champion and past Eldora Speedway Kings Royal winner Dale Blaney of Hartford, Ohio captured the inaugural event.

Other popular returning events on the 2013 schedule include two Auto Value Enduro races, the 3rd Annual Pure Stock Invitational, and of course the crown jewel of the schedule every year; The Labor Day Shootout.

A bevy of fan promotions throughout the year include go-kart races, bicycle races, “Pack the Stands Night”, beer truck races, celebrity races, Military Night, Scout Night, The Freddie Frand Memorial Hall of Fame Night, and many more.

Racing action gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
