There will also be a parish prayer service at 4 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 14, 1929 at Franklin Mine, Mich. to John and Frances Oniskin. He grew up in Nashwauk and later earned a bachelor's degree from St. Cloud State University and a masters of education from University of Wisconsin at Superior.
He entered the U.S. Marine Corps shortly after World War II ended.
He married Alice Fochtman July 10, 1954 at Grand Rapids, Minn. He served as superintendent of schools in Buhl and Pierz and for many years in New Prague, retiring in 1981.
He was a member of the American Legion, South Metro Medical Clinic Board and of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church.
He is survived by his wife, Alice; five daughters, Therese Oniskin of Chiago, Ill.; Cathy (Matt) Nash of Marblehead, Mass.; Amy (Bill) Durdahl of Eagan; Lisa (John) Boerboon of Apple Valley and Sally (Kelly) Sjelin of Maple Grove and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.
Memorials may be made to Queen of Peace Hospital Foundation, St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church of the American Heart Association.
