Judith (Judy) Vogel, 59, died Thursday, Dec. 8, 2011, at Hospice of the Valley Care Center in Surprise, Ariz.
Born and raised in Hibbing, Judy graduated from Hibbing High School in '70 and St. Cloud State University in '74.
She taught special education for several school districts in North and South Central Minnesota as well as coaching golf and basketball teams at the high school level.
Moving to Phoenix, Ariz., in the mid-'80s Judy taught special education in the Tempe School District while attending Arizona State University and receiving her Master's Degree in Special Education in 1990. Most recently Judy was employed by Banner Health Systems in the Dietary Unit.
Judy's favorite pastimes were golf and bowling, and she won a number of amateur golf titles in Minnesota and Canada. She was a former member of the Women's Professional Golf Association and a 20-plus year breast cancer survivor.
She is survived by her two brothers, Bill of Sun City, Ariz., and Fred, and his wife, Nancy, of St Peter, Minn.; two nieces, Kristin Dehrkoop and Megan Vogel, both of Minnesota.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Gloria (Essler) Vogel of Hibbing.
Funeral: A memorial service and interment is planned for early spring in Northern Minnesota.
