Bernard Joseph “Barney” Ranger, 61, longtime resident of the Nashwauk area, died Thursday, Sept. 17, 2009, at home.
He was born Oct. 9, 1947, in Santa Cruz, Calif., the son of Joseph A. and Joyce K. (Askim) Ranger. On Oct. 19, 1968, he married Kay Michelle Poirier at Nashwauk Lutheran Church.
Barney was employed as a maintenance mechanic at Butler Taconite and National Steel. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, and the American Legion. He was a Vietnam veteran.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Kay; his children, Curtis (Tracy) Ranger of Hibbing, and Misty (Joseph) Lind of Mt. Iron; grandchildren: Shelbi Ranger, Riley Lind, Cody Ranger and Madison Lind; siblings Mary (Del) Inkman of Nashwauk, Linnea (Allan) Poach of Circle Pines, Minn., Grace (William) Swanson of Hibbing, Ellen (Ron Kampf) Ranger of Nashwauk, Martin (Kim) Ranger of North Branch, Minn., and Janice (Brian) Miles of Chisago City, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin sons.
Funeral: Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 19, at the First Lutheran Church in Hibbing with the Rev. John Dietz officiating.
Visitation: Will be Saturday for an hour before the service at the church.
Burial: Interment will be in the Nashwauk Cemetery.
