Karen Ann Johnson, 58, of Long Prairie, Minn., died Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, peacefully at home with her family by her side after a courageous fight with cancer. Karen was born Oct. 27, 1954, in Grand Rapids, to Wayne and Marie Warwas of Nashwauk.
She graduated from Nashwauk-Keewatin High School in 1972. Karen married Phillip Johnson on May 31, 1975, at Nashwauk Lutheran Church. Karen was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She loved making special Christmas sugar cookies with her grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, playing cards and camping with the family. She also loved decorating her home for the holidays. Karen will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Karen is survived by her husband, Phillip; children, Cary (Heather) of Eden Prairie, Minn., Jill Johnson of Willmar, Minn., and Patrick of Minneapolis; grandchildren, Cody and Brooke Johnson; mother, Marie E. Warwas of Grand Rapids; siblings: Margaret (Don) Strom of Grand Rapids, Barb (Lonnie) Karnes of Grand Rapids, Roger (Laurie) Warwas of Nashwauk and Don (Lynn) Warwas of Nashwauk; sister-in-law, Renee Warwas of Hibbing; and several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Karen was preceded in death by her father, Wayne A. Warwas; brother, Ron; grandparents, Ray and Frieda Warwas and Leslie and Christina Fay; and special great-aunt Anna Wold.
Funeral: Services were held Monday, Dec. 10, at American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie. The Rev. Bill Bakewicz officiated, and burial will be at Nashwauk Cemetery in Nashwauk.
