HIBBING -- A Big Lake, Minn., man died Saturday afternoon after he became trapped beneath a cabin in Lavell Township.

Randy Sayler, 45, of Big Lake, Minn., was working with several others to fix the cabin’s foundation when a beam collapsed trapping him beneath the cabin, according to a release by the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office responded to the call at about 5:20 p.m. Saturday in the 1300 block of Lavell Road in Lavell Township.

An arriving officer was able to extract Sayler by cutting a hole in the floor of the cabin, but Sayler died at the scene, according to the release.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Volunteer Rescue Squad, Hibbing Fire Department Ambulance, Meadowlands Ambulance and McDavitt Fire Department First Responders assisted.
