St. Michael's to hold special services, banquet

HIBBING — On Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 4 and 5, the congregation of St. Michael’s Serbian Orthodox Church will celebrate its 54th anniversary. The celebration will be honored with the presence of His Grace Rt. Rev. Bishop Longin of the New Gracanica Midwest Diocese of the Serbian Orthodox Church of North and South America. His Grace will be joined by His Deacon Nikolai Kostur of Grayslake, Ill., host priest Fr. Vladimir Lange of the Hibbing parish,Very Rev. Abbot Fr. John Magramm of the Russian Holy Resurrection Monastery of Fridley, Minn., Very Rev. Fr. Srdjan Veselinovich of Galveston, Texas, Fr. Christian Petrovich, Fr. Dn. Paul Kiproff of St. George’s in Duluth, and Fr. Dunstan Lowe of St. Basil’s in Chisholm. The kumovi (sponsors) for the anniversary celebration will be Leonard and Georgia Hydukovich, longtime parishioners and stewards of the church.

The weekend will begin with a Vesper service at 5 p.m. Saturday at the church. On Sunday, a Heirarchical Liturgy will be served by His Grace Bishop Longin beginning at 9:45 a.m. Following the service, a celebration banquet will be served, featuring barbecue pig and lamb, sarmas, baron of beef, garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus, salads, and ethnic desserts including povitica and strudel.
