CHISHOLM — A recount has confirmed incumbent Todd Scaia as a victor in the Chisholm City Council race in the Nov. 6 General Election.
The recount, conducted Tuesday at the St. Louis County Courthouse in Duluth, was requested by challenger Mary Jo Rahja.
In the original count, Rahja trailed Scaia by 22 votes, or less than one half of one percent.
Results of the recount show Scaia with 1,190 votes and Rahja with 1,169 — a 21 vote difference, according to Roberta Museta, clerk of the Board of Elections for St. Louis County.
Scaia said Tuesday that he was happy that the recount confirmed the result of the original count.
“I’d like to thank the people who supported me and look forward to serving all the citizens of Chisholm the next four years,” Scaia added.
Rahja did not immediately return a call seeking comment.
The recount began at 1 p.m. Tuesday and was finished by 3 p.m. A total of 5,066 other votes were cast in the city council race, which also included top vote getters Tracy Campbell and Steve Cook and challenger John Wangensteen.
Incumbents Scaia and Cook and newcomer Campbell will take office for their new terms in January.
