Here I sit, meditating over all that has happened this summer, and I was amused by several sundry items that surfaced from my experiences.

During one stormy evening, lightning filled the skies with a spectacular display of its power, the darkness adding to highlight the display; suddenly a streak started in the eastern sky unlike any that I have ever seen. The lightning started from one central point, and simultaneously sent four or five branches toward both the north and the south that lit up the whole eastern sky for a moment as if it was full daylight. It sent chills down my spine, and reminded me of the awesome power of nature (scripture says “For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.”)

Another time I was at the local fair with four of my children and grandchildren. They were riding many rides and I even went on a few. I came up with a conclusion. If you ever want to find out how much potential road rage that you have abiding in you, just go on the bumper cars. That road rage will immediately come to the surface! I surprised myself. But, it was fun going after my children, and them crashing into me also.

Yet another time it was also interesting doing a redneck wedding at a remote location deep in the woods north of Highway 1. There we were by the back of an old pickup, without electricity or music, many different types of clothing being worn;. One man even was wearing a six-shooter. But God was there, and the ceremony was joyous.

Yet again, we have seen on television the great destruction that wind can do. But when you stand by a huge Norway pine tree that was once standing tall and strong, now twisted and strewn all over the ground, you again have a renewed awe of the power of nature.

I also cannot help but to reflect on the succulent moments like eating fresh corn on the cob that was sweeter than sugar, smothered with lots of tasty butter; vine ripened tomatoes so red, so juicy, and so delicious that they brought a new dimension to fine eating. Water melon so sweet and tasty that you washed your face when you ate it; and a hundred other fresh fruits and veggies that should remind us how truly blessed we really are.

I fully believe that God is calling His children (no matter what flavor we may be) to prayer like maybe never before. A lot of unusual things are beginning to happen, and recent weather patterns would surely support that.

Scripture says, “The effective fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

It also says “Epaphras, who is one of you, a bondservant of Christ, greets you, always laboring fervently for you in prayers, that you may stand perfect and complete in all the will of God.” It also speaks of the power of God; “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.”

It goes on to say, “For the Lord has heard the voice of my weeping. The Lord has heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer.”

There are definitely changes that are happening in this world, and the selfishness of humanity is growing.

The Bible states that the Lord will come back some day, and also talks about what will happen during the time before He comes back. Something is happening, but I do not believe that God is done on this earth yet. I believe that there is much more that He is going to do, but He needs the prayers of His people.

We need to become people of much and fervent prayer. We need to pray for our families, our churches, our cities, our nation, and this world.

God has an enormous amount of His grace and power ready to be released. He is waiting for the prayers of His people to pull the trigger.

It is time for the army of God to rise up and go into battle like never before. Let us take up the weapons of prayer and God’s Word and do great exploits for our God.

Needing Him,

Pastor Rod Tuomi
